What toys and books are popular with children aged 1-2

My Daughter has her own bookshelf in her room with mostly board books (I hate to see a book ruined) and one or two regular books near where I can watch and guide on the handling. She has a large plastic jar of foam alphabets and numbers which she loves to dump, loop onto her feet and question us of what certain ones are - she’s learned quite a few letters with some of our little quizzes.

She also loves her large plastic dollar store animal figures, the ones bigger than her hand (about 3″ long) - these are harder to find but well worth the search. She can name and sound out their noises. And her favorite books are the dictionary type books, in particular, Usborne’s 8.5×11″ “First Picture Word Book”, and Priddy Bicknell’s 5×3.5″ “Happy Baby 123″ (perfect for the diaper bag travels and car reading). We would point out and say the names, eventually she would point them out of us to say, and later we would ask and she would find and point.

Also my other daughter Clarissa loved books, her Litttle People Noah’s Ark, and her Lily frog from the Leapfrog line. She STILL loves her Little People playsets. She still gets alot of use out of them.

She also loves the leapfrog magnets, her phonics radio, and any and all animal figurines she can get her little hands on. Of course she major loved and still loves her babies. My Mom got her a Groovy Girls doll around that age frame and it’s still a beloved friend. Along with the several other Groovy Girls that seem to have moved in.

My main recommendation…the animal line. Of course since I seem to live with a miniature zoologist I have animals on the brain. But they’ve been a constant. Now we learn with them, count them, sort them. Numerous education possibilities there.
